Despite huge improvements in health and safety, last year 133 people in the UK died at work and 28.2 million days were lost to injury and illness, costing individuals, employers and government more than £14 billion. But campaigns to motivate employees to change long-established ways of working are increasingly helping to keep them and their workmates safe and productive.
Recognising this, FCC Environment commissioned us to deliver an important element of its three-year health and safety strategy.
Our national behaviour change campaign emphasised the need for everyone to report every hazard and every near miss, every time, no matter how big or small, without fear of getting themselves or their workmates into trouble.
Report It, Every Time included a briefing pack for managers with a 60-second animated film to bring the issue to life, printed materials in the workplace to keep the campaign front of mind, and a simple mechanism for staff to make anonymous reports.
