Why embedding culture?

The UK Corporate Governance Code was revised in January 2024. Provision 2 now says “boards should not only assess and monitor culture, but also how the desired culture has been embedded”. First reporting on the new code, including how culture has been embedded, is required in 2026.

This new expectation on business is set against an extraordinary backdrop.

There is a compelling need for resilience, with forty percent of global CEOs believing their organisation will no longer be economically viable in ten years’ time (PWC CEO survey, 2023). The European Commission has introduced new thinking around Industry 5.0 with the ambition of transitioning “to a sustainable, human-centric and resilient European Industry”. And on the back of Covid-19 we are going through the biggest reinvention in the world of work in over 100 years.

What are the big cultural challenges we face? AI, trust, leadership, a sense of belonging, attracting and retaining colleagues, distributing control, inclusion, diversity, mental health, managing misinformation, cybersecurity, and introducing a culture of innovation.

This roundtable is an opportunity for change leaders to explore how to embed and report on culture in the face of these challenges. What kind of culture does our new world require? How do we define our preferred culture? How do we embed it? And how do we report on progress?

The event will be hosted by John Drummond, chairman of Corporate Culture Group and founder of The Human Centre. Over the last 25 years, John has been a board-level consultant to dozens of organisations on culture, business transformation and behaviour change.
